The Symbolism of Birds
An Exploration of Birds in Folklore & Legend
Saturday December 19, at 1-2:30pm CST

Taught by Lindsay Nohl / co-hosted by Jenny Wells

Join us mid-December for another great Young Mystics class! Birds are some of the most prevalent symbols in folklore and legend and in this workshop instructor Lindsay Nohl will tell the stories of some of the most compelling birds of lore. We will discuss why we revere them as symbolic representations of our more human qualities, explore why many otherworldly beasts and gods share many of their physical attributes, and learn about some of the birds in our favorite esoteric applications. We will also discuss some of the incredible stories from the book Birds Brittanica by Mark Cocker, which details cultural links to birds that are both fascinating and puzzling, analyze old canonical stained glass, medieval tapestries, and more.

The workshop will be part lecture, part interactive, with a chance to enhance one's use of metaphor and understanding of symbolism across all sorts of visual, verbal, and narrative works.

Exploring Symbolism and Lore!

This is a virtual workshop open to beginners and practiced mystics alike! Birds adorn sacred sites, are depicted on ancient ruins throughout history, and have their place in home decor, tattoos, and the visual arts. This course is perfect for those looking to learn more about birds as motif and metaphor, as well as see where they fit in some of our favorite esoteric topics.

This is one of a series of upcoming Young Mystics workshops where we will be investigating personal power through the use of Tarot and Mysticism.

Our workshop happens on Discord via a combination of lecture and practice - so you will need to download the program to join!
